Artist Profile
Anna Harley is a fine art printmaker, a member of Spike Print Studio in Bristol and has completed an MA in Printmaking at the University of the West of England. Anna's work is located within the Northern European Landscape Tradition, and is influenced by her nomadic childhood and Scandinavian background. Her practice investigates ways of using fine art to communicate on both a social and psychological level. Anna draws inspiration from the Chew Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty at the foothills of the Mendips in South West England, where she lives. Her prints explore emotional and psychological states through the use of semi-abstracted images; often close ups of the landscape taken from her drawings and photographs of the surrounding countryside. The combination of a variety of media, (textile/ ceramic/ paper), with both traditional and contemporary print processes, (screen print/ woodcut/ laser/ digital photography), allows the artist to build up layers of texture and silhouette. Through this process, Anna Harley produces printed works that explore the gradual construction of the self over time and articulate the links between past and present.
